Decentralization of Free Mind

Objective seminar "Contemporary Theatre – The Space of Open Mind, Decentralization of Free Mind" is to respond on the theme of democratization of thought and raising of consciousness about civil society by exploiting abilities of contemporary theatre in education. The seminar lasts for two weeks with the public presentation of work at the end.

The need for this project comes out of life conditions and circumstances of difficult political and social situation in the last ten years. As maybe the most important and the heaviest inheritance from the past years it was left to us the lack of thought freedom.

This project represents an option of help to young people in attaining of free thinking and expressing of their own attitudes about the world that surrounds us, through a human approach to work in theatre in which focus are human being and his/her experience. Because the first step to open society is open mind.

1. 1999, BITEF Theatre, Belgrade
   During the bombing period in 1999, in BITEF Theatre, Plavo pozorište  realized four cycles of two-week workshops titled Humanistic Theatre Workshops with public work presentation at the end (Spiritual Gymnastics, Joy of Love, The Sense of Life, New Energy). The power of contemporary theatre and its ability to renew and revitalize human spirit and energy was of great importance for almost 150 young people who attended these workshops.
2. 2001/2002, Cultural Centre Rex, Belgrade
   Cycle of three seminars was realized in Cultural Centre Rex in Belgrade in 2001/2002. Around 60 young people participated these seminars with themes dictatorship - revolution – democracy. Public presentations of work were seen by almost 600 spectators.
   The project was realized with the support of European Union, within the program European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
3. 2002, Youth Centre Pancevo (Serbia)
   Second cycle of three seminars Decentralization of Free Mind was realized in 2002 in Pancevo in cooperation with Youth Centre Pancevo. The aim was moving of project from the centre (Belgrade) into a smaller community as a necessary condition for democratization of society. More than 50 young people of Pancevo city participated seminars with themes identity – communication – responsibility. The interest of audience in Pancevo was more than positive, so public presentations were seen by 400 spectators.
   The project was realized with the support of European Union, within the program European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
