Relative Absolute

This performance was produced from one side, within the process of  study and observation of the Man, of his behaviour and condition; and from the other side, within the experimentation of theatrical and expressive languages. These two lines of research form the process of work of Specchi e Memorie. The general metaphor of the performance concerns the apparent antinomy between “relative” and “absolute”.

The first sentences from Giacomo Leopardi and the last one from Friederich Nietzsche (who will become Jack (Giacomo) and Fred (Friederich), the street singers in the performance give the interpretation of the vision we wanted to put in observation: the relativity of man – as phenomenon, as individual, as existence – is part of the absoluteness of the reality.  The language is intentionally structured in “tableaux vivants”(living paintings), which follow one another in pressing rhythm, without a specific story, but with several images and moments which an be caught in every situation (relative) and in connection with the entire (absolute), try to show the life in his fragile essence.



SPECCHI E MEMORIE

SPECCHI E MEMORIE was founded in 1987 by Massimo Giannetti.

It had a theatrical origin, and for the first years its Masters and sources of inspiration were Odin Teatret specially through the work with Torgeir Wethal, and Teater Laboratorium of Jerzy Grotowski working with Rena Mirecka.

In 1995 Specchi e Memorie started opening its work even in paratheatrical way, and from 1998 creates and organizes Pedagogical Projects. Specchi e Memorie people continue - as main line of  its process for growth of their knowledge, experience and vision -  research, study and application in different branches of Philosophy, Poetry and Literature fields and more recently also in modern fields as Psychology and Human Behavior, Epistemology, Sociobiology, Natural Sciences, etc.

“Theatrical work can’t be seen just as a process for aesthetical results and products, but also a mean to discover, to proof and to communicate something new about Human Being and about Reality, in specific and absolute sense”.

  • What is Theatre doing and what can Theatre do in order to face with unpleasant feeling, with fear, with unadaptability, with being without ideas, without ideals, without sense, which Human Being has been living since always, and in a special way in this Time of ours in which Man created various "remedies": Philosophy, Politics, Religion, Science which seem that are not capable any more to fulfill the point of reference why they were created for, and they become thrown even further away to the margines of "commom life", life which we live, which Human Being should continue nevertheless?
  • What is Theatre doing and what can Theatre do in order to answer old and new questions which Man asks in relation to himself, Man in general and Reality that is around him?
  • What is Theatre doing in order to awaken courage, energy, creativity, the interest for Other, in a Man who is, more or less consciously reconciled with his fate and who finds as his only goal the escape from pain and suffering and search for physical and material welth?
  • Can theatre become main instrument for knowing of ourselves and Reality, no matter if it is subjective or objective one?
